BASALT ? Diners at a Basalt restaurant had some unexpected and unwelcome entertainment Saturday evening when a scuffle broke out and one man stabbed another with a small pocket knife according to police.

Delvin Ramos Monzon 24 of Basalt was charged with second-degree assault a class IV felony for allegedly using a potentially deadly weapon on his adversary in a fight according to Basalt Sgt. Stu Curry. Lesser charges are being contemplated against three other participants in the scuffle Curry said.

The cause of the fight is unknown. Video from a surveillance camera in the Taqueria el Nopal shows there was a discussion between Milton Ramos Monzon who was eating in the restaurant and two other men William Hernandez and Rigoberto Medina who were seated at a different table. Ramos Monzon called his brother Delvin who came to the Taqueria. The Ramos Monzon brothers are seen in the video watching the other men Curry said.

When Hernandez and Medina exited the brothers followed them. Milton Ramos Monzon allegedly blocked the vehicle of the other men from leaving and tried to pull Hernandez from the car according to Curry. Medina got out of the car and struck Delvin Ramos Monzon putting ?him down ? Curry said.

Delvin Ramos Monzon is accused of pulling out a small pocketknife that was on his key chain and stabbing Medina in the leg the police report says. The fight was located in the parking lot outside the view of the video camera but diners on the patio witnessed the incident and called 911. The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Police in the area were on the scene in less than a minute. Hernandez and Medina both of El Jebel left the scene but an officer pulled over their car a short distance away. The Ramos Monzon brothers portrayed themselves as victims Curry said but police determined that wasn't the case after pondering the evidence.

Delvin Ramos Monzon was taken to Eagle County Jail where he is being held on a detainer by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency for investigation to see if he is in the country legally.

Curry said it is unknown if cultural tensions played a role in the dispute. The Ramos Monzon brothers are natives of Guatemala while the other men are natives of Mexico Curry said.
